About the Conclave

Transforming HR : Becoming a Strategic Business Partner

HR Conclave-2017 will bring together business and HR leaders to share their ideas and experiences of transforming HR into a strategic business partner. It would also provide an excellent opportunity to showcase the innovations and best practices adopted by the industry stalwarts. The conclave comprises of two technical sessions followed by a panel discussion.

Today’s complex, dynamic and global environment places HR at the centre of business strategy decisions. New business frontiers are emerging which are a result of massive expansions of global markets fueled by rapidly evolving technologies. This demands a continuous evolution of the organisation to gain business excellence and it can be achieved only through creating an atmosphere that promotes innovation, learning, collaboration and quality driven initiatives which revolve around the people in an organisation. This vision is in alignment with the school of thought that considers people as the most important asset which also brings HR to the centre stage. Moving beyond the traditional set of administrative HR activities that revolve around compensation and staffing, HR today needs to transform into a strategic business partner. This would mean working closely with other business leaders to perform an insightful assessment of business landscape, put in place a strategy that can enhance profitability, steer its implementation, and make the best use of the organisation’s people.

The need to develop these capabilities brings us to the question: What are the imperatives for HR’s strategic partnership role? The conclave deliberations on the subject matter will be organised in the form of following sessions:

Role of HR as a Strategic Partner

Creating a new role and agenda – Not what it does but what it delivers

A proper alignment between the business strategy, HR strategy and HR service portfolio is essential so as to become a partner in sharing the goals and objectives of the organisation. HR can play a leading role in defining how a company will be organised while maintaining a balance between systems and skills. HR needs to develop a new role and agenda which is more goal driven by developing a framework for the organisation in terms of its culture, processes, competencies, governance and leadership. This framework can then be used to understand the fit between each of its components and the strategic goals and assess the impact in terms of quantifiable business goals. In case of any deviation, appropriate measures can be taken for renovation and improvement.

HR as the Change Agent

Driving Organisational change and talent transformation

HR must play a leading role in bringing transformation in organisational practices and culture by shifting its role from being reactive to becoming proactive. A continuous transformation is necessary in diagnosing problems, developing solutions and meeting business objectives. Innovative HR practices, coupled with the latest technologies available in the market can help in enhancing HR effectiveness while leading cultural transformation.

Panel discussion on Positioning HR – ‘The crystal ball’

New knowledge and expertise to guide and equip present and future HR Partnership role

Improving efficiency and quality of HR processes will enhance the credibility of HR function and will set the ground for moving to the strategic table. HR should also focus on building their own skills and competencies for embracing the new HR roles. It is imperative for HR to ensure that the employees are committed to the organisation and feel motivated. This can be achieved by positioning HR as an employee champion. By creating an environment of trust, the HR can also make sure that broad organisational vision and objectives get percolated into specific behaviours by letting the employees understand the changes that they need to bring in their work and the purpose behind them.

The panel discussion will provide a forum to industry leaders for sharing real life experiences, discussing their areas of expertise and how they focus on aligning the needs, developing talent, engaging employees, retaining talent and supporting global workplaces.
